about

Inspired by the dense and eerie fog that rolls in on cool winter nights and lingers into the dawn here, just north of Seattle, this third single by Atomic Pines explores the less defined edges of synthwave. Live drums tracked by Josiah Greatens bleed in and out of focus complementing and contrasting rigid samples while discomfort and dissonance takes the lead.

Lyrically, this work strains for self reliance and bravery in uncertainty. Leaving the comforts of home and musical partnerships behind to forge a new path forward to something that waits just out of sight.

lyrics

A drifting phantom
A fallen cloud
Gnarled fingers against the ground
Strangled figures of every streetlamp in this godforsaken town
I hear it creaking. I hear it lurk.
Beyond the doorway I've boarded up
With projects dropped and friendships lost
All heavy, dark and faded

Watch me stumble through the vastness
As I leave it all behind
Running blindly to what waits, devouring
To stand alone, ready to fight
Ready or not here I come

A festering future a wilted past
A callous hand upon my chest
Scraping sneakers against the grit while
Heartless specters push me back
I see it rising. I feel its weight.
A shadow forms from the opaque
With ragged claws and stomach broad
All cruel, starved, betraying

Watch me stumble through the vastness

Watch me stumble through the vastness
Watch me leave it all behind
Running blindly to what waits, to crush everything
We're all so lonely
But maybe I'm ready

Watch me stumble through the vastness
As I leave it all behind
Running blindly to what waits, devouring
To stand alone, ready to fight
Ready or not here I come
