The debut single. Manically produced in the fall of 2019, Nosferatu takes a first step into the rain soaked world of Atomic Pines.
The composition was largely influenced by an almost obsessive listening to the Peter Gabriel albums So and Security from 2018 through much of 2019 as this song and Atomic Pines as a concept was developed.
The song was arranged and produced with the intent of fully utilizing a collection of modern and vintage analog synthesizers. This also represents a first exploration into sampled percussion.
Lyrically the song perhaps one of my most "on the sleeve" embracing a dramatic personal transformation.
lyrics
Back in the old country
I was a fiend. I was ghoul.
A noted, narcissistic Nosferatu
Unliving and doomed in the darkness of a basement
Drinking my whiskey like blood
You pulled back the curtains and watched me burn. Burn.
Yeah, it was good for me. It was good to hurt.
Not sure it gave back all that I took
But each day I try to be a little more human for us
We were married in a garden by the lake not in a church
Part of me still thinks I’d burst to flames under that roof
I take my drinks black now like my heart
Black from when I smoked those cloves unfiltered and navy cuts
You pulled back the curtains and watched me burn. Burn.
Yeah, it was good for me. It was good to hurt.
Not sure it gave back all that I took
But each day I try to be a little more human for us
I no longer have the taste for red water pouring down
I no longer have the taste for the slaughter of anything or anyone
I no longer dwell inside the grave of my head
I am above the dirt because of this
You pulled back the curtains and watched me burn. Burn.
Yeah, it was good for me. It was good to hurt.
Not sure it gave back all that I took
But each day I try to be a little more human for us.
